As we prepare for Christmas, we are focusing a great deal on the birth of Jesus. At our church this past Sunday we had a birthday party for Jesus. One of the children asked her mom, “Is Jesus coming for the party?” What a great question. In I Thessalonians 15:9-10, the Bible tells us, “For God has destined us not for wrath but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us, so that whether we are awake or asleep we may live with him. “ I love that passage! As we celebrate the birth of Jesus, let us remember that Jesus is as much with us NOW as He will be in in heaven-only the geography will change!

Sorry, Wes….I looked through so many files, I don’t remember. The photo was reminiscent of those that were taken during the Great Depression -grainy, earthy, focused on relationships and the need to cling to each other. That’s how I see our relationship with God – genuine, relational, and one to which we need to cling…

That’s what I was thinking — looks like those great old Depression pictures to me, too. But it gives a new spin on the Christmas story. Joseph and Mary probably had a lot in common with those Depression folks, or people like Joe the Carpenter!!
